Fuel manufacturing: tubes leaving the furnace

The Front End activities of the nuclear fuel cycle take place following the mining and processing of the ore. The front end combines the services of uranium conversion and enrichment along with the manufacturing of fuel assemblies for nuclear reactors.

Construction of the Georges Besse II enrichment plant in October 2008

Enrichment consists of increasing the proportion of uranium-235 found in the natural uranium in order to produce a fuel that can be used in nuclear reactors.
