Used nuclear fuel coming from Italy to France

According to the contract signed between SOGIN (Italian acronym for Company for the Management of Nuclear Facilities in Italy) and AREVA, and following intergovernmental agreements between France and Italy, part of the used fuel from Italian nuclear power plants is sent to France for treatment.
In accordance with these commitments, a shipment of one cask containing used fuel has left the Italian storage site of Avogadro in Saluggia (Italian Piemont) on February 6, 2011. It could reach the TN International railway terminal located in Valognes on February 8, 2011.
This shipment will be the first one for this site and the seventeenth shipment of Italian used fuel elements.
This operation fully complies with national and international regulations.
