Ship carrying spent nuclear fuel scheduled to arrive in Cherbourg today after safe passage from Australia

Press release

March 14, 2001

The ship called "Le Bouguenais", with a cargo of spent nuclear fuel from Australia on board, will arrive at the port of Cherbourg at the end of the day. COGEMA would like at this time to express satisfaction at the March 14 judgment handed down by the court in Cherbourg, which instructed Greenpeace not to obstruct either the unloading of the spent fuel or its forwarding to the La Hague facility and to the rail terminal in Valognes.

The legal procedure that COGEMA undertook as a preventive measure has been fruitful and should ensure that the unloading and forwarding operations take place without incident. COGEMA will be present to welcome the press on the port at 04:00
