Departure of second vitrified-waste shipment to Switzerland

The second shipment of vitrified waste from France to Switzerland, announced by the Swiss electric utility NOK (Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke) and COGEMA on 14 February 2002, left the rail terminal at Valognes, France, at 2:37 a.m. today. It is scheduled to arrive in Switzerland on 27 February 2002.
The Castor HAW 20/28 CG shipping cask containing 28 canisters of vitrified waste will be unloaded from the train on arrival and taken to a special storage building at Zwilag, Würenlingen. The cask and canisters used for this shipment have undergone all regulatory and contractual inspections required for them to leave the COGEMA La Hague plant.
