Safety Alliance: AREVA Supplies Fuel Pool Monitoring Systems to Taiwanese Reactors

Press release

March 07, 2016

AREVA NP successfully supplied the final two spent fuel pool level instrumentation (SFPLI) systems to Taiwan Power Corporation’s Chinshan Nuclear Power Plant. The company also verified the installation of these systems, which are currently in operation at the plant’s two reactors.

The SFPLI systems allow operators to ensure the facility’s used nuclear fuel storage pools maintain the required level of water, even in adverse conditions. AREVA’s SFPLI systems meet also the post-Fukushima requirements of the Taiwanese nuclear safety authority. This system was developed using VEGA’s Through-Air Radar technology, specialized for measuring and monitoring levels and pressures. This solution is part of AREVA’s Safety Alliance program which offers nuclear operators the most advanced products and services to ensure the safety of their plants.

“This new contract demonstrates confidence of our customers in the reliability of this technology, which is designed for all types of reactors,” said Michael Cerruti, Sales Executive Vice-President of AREVA Reactors & Services Business Group. “This project was successful through the close cooperation and teamwork between AREVA and Taiwan Power Corporation.”

AREVA has supplied SFPLI systems to multiple utilities in the United States and in Spain.
